Personal Beauty: Accepting the Skin You are In

Published

on

Everyone has flaws that make them concerned, afraid, or embarrassed. However, it’s very important to feel confident in the skin that you’re in to live happier, confident, and even healthier lives. So how can you make the best of what you have to look and feel better than ever before?

Accentuate What You Love About Yourself

While one body feature may not be your favorite, there are likely others that you enjoy about yourself. For example, if you have beautiful blue eyes, then wearing certain hues will make your baby blues stand out. Perhaps you have a lovely neck so you can wear your hair up and accentuate it with beautiful necklaces.

Make a list of what you like about yourself and how you can draw the eye to those areas. Focusing on what you love about yourself rather than what you don’t like about yourself can make you feel more confident and enjoy what you can show off.

Don’t Base Your Worth on Others’ Standards

It’s easy to fall into the trap of wondering whether you measure up to other people’s beauty standards. The truth of the matter is that these standards are changing all the time. One beauty trend comes in, and another falls by the wayside. Other standards are impossible to meet. Accept yourself as you are and set your own standards for yourself.

Compliment Yourself Daily

Negative self-thinking can really affect a person’s self-esteem negatively. Don’t become a victim of negative self-thinking. Praise yourself for how well you take care of yourself, on the merits of your personality, and even the things you don’t like about yourself. When you start feeling negative about yourself, review the things that you are good at. You are your own worst critic, so don’t beat yourself up for your perceived flaws. You’d be surprised at how positive self-praise can change your outlook on the way you look and feel.

Know When to Seek Treatment

Some perceived flaws can also be healthcare red flags. For example, not only are varicose veins unsightly, but they can become quite painful and restrict your mobility as well. Know when you should seek treatment before something gets worse or affects your mental or physical health. Take care of your body and mind to be the best person you can be.

Being able to accept yourself, flaws and all, is extremely important to build self-esteem and confidence. It’s important to know what your best features are, to hold yourself to your own realistic standards, and to avoid negative thinking. However, you should always know when to seek treatment for certain issues that you may have. You’re worth the effort!
